Our Repair Services
We offer two Okuma spindle repair options: standard and emergency. Our standard repair turnaround time is between 10 and 14 business days. If you’re experiencing an emergency, we do offer an expedited option (between 1 and 3 business days), as long as we have the available parts in stock.
Our Repair Process
Our ISO-certified Okuma spindle repair process always starts with a free evaluation. Our team will disassemble your spindle in our HEPA Class 10,000 cleanroom to prevent contamination and inspect your spindle for common signs of wear and tear, including faulty stators, damaged bearings, contamination, failing rotary unions, ISO & DIN Taper Grinding Standards, and more.
Our technicians will also chemically clean and photograph each component. All geometric inspections are performed with our exclusive ABTech Microform Gage, which measures roundness, flatness, concentricity, and perpendicularity.
Once our team discovers a probable cause of failure, we’ll contact you with a quote and estimated repair timeline. After you accept your quote, we’ll assign the repair to the technician with the most experience with that specific repair.
After repairs are complete, we test your Okuma spindle in our closed loop system to ensure optimal performance. We also balance each spindle to ISO 21940-11:2016 specifications.
Then, we’ll send your newly repaired spindle back to you along with a report that outlines what we repaired or replaced, test duration and results, installation recommendations, and suggested maintenance.
Signs You Need Repairs
A variety of factors can lead to you needing spindle repairs. Spindles might fail due to exposure to contaminants because of faulty seals or lack of lubrication. If you’ve noticed any of the following signs, you need to schedule an evaluation:
- Newfound Inability to Hold Tolerances
- Unusual Noises
- Excessive Vibration
- Finishing Issues
- Visible Wear & Damage, including Fretting
- Overheating
When You Need Repairs Versus a Full Replacement
When a spindle needs repaired, this can be a significant problem for shop owners. No one can afford a lengthy wait while the repair company tries to determine the extent of the damage and the cost of getting the spindle back online. At the same time, replacing the spindle out of desperation is often an unnecessary waste of money.
In order to determine whether a repair or full replacement is necessary, you need to ask several questions:
1. Will the repaired spindle meet or exceed OEM specifications? If the spindle repair company you choose does not provide an OEM guarantee, you risk receiving a spindle that will not perform as well as it used to.
2. What will the warranty cover? A cheap fix often comes with little or no service after the repair, which could leave you in worse shape than you started.
3. How quickly can the repair company have the spindle back to you?
Lastly, an evaluation is always needed in order to determine whether a repair or replacement is the most cost-effective option. If the spindle has extensive damage (bearings were burned due to excessive heat, significant wear and tear from bearing failure, etc.), a replacement or rebuild will often be the most cost-effective choice.
