  • Excessive Runout: This issue is commonly caused by spindle or tooling misalignments or bearing wear.
  • Bearing Wear/Failure: Bearings can eventually fail from contaminants like dust or metal particles.
  • Taper Damage: Corrosion from moisture or chemicals can cause taper damage as well as improper tool changes or tool crashes.
  • Contaminated Lubrication: It’s important to use the correct type of lubricant for spindles and to ensure the lubricants used are free from dust and debris.

Repair

We offer emergency (1-3 days, based on part availability) and standard spindle repair services (10-14 days), and complete rebuilds for spindles that are beyond repair.

Our repair process includes:

  • Complete full evaluation, where our technicians assess the function of the spindle and any unique assembly features.
  • Disassembly (in a HEPA climate-controlled environment) to understand the condition of the spindle and any potential component wear.
  • Providing you a quote and a Failure Analysis Report outlining what parts need to be repaired or replaced, what our technicians found during evaluation, and the estimated lead time.
  • Cleaning the spindle, providing the necessary repairs and part replacements, reassembly, and machining (if needed).
  • Testing (spindle vibration testing, thermal analysis, etc.) and balancing (if needed). We have specially designed test stands for Hitachi-Seiki spindles.
  • Final quality assurance inspection.

In many cases, we can provide engineering recommendations for upgrading or remanufacturing your Hitachi-Seiki spindle to ensure it performs well in your unique application. Lead times will vary based on the upgrades being made to the spindle.
